We are living in strange times. The ordinary tasks of going to the grocery store or having a quick stroll has now become a vital time for a breather, although limited and distanced, a time to be part of the outside world.
Depending on where you are in the world at this moment, you are most likely grappling with the new realities of Covid-19. In Lisbon, life is in adaptation and we are collectively doing what it takes to contain the spread.
Washing your hands remain the most effective way to prevent the spread of infection of the virus. Soap, liquid or solid, together with water has the capacity of breaking down the virus contagion of Covid-19.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), virus transmission can occur from the hands to the eyes, nose and mouth, where the virus can enter and spread. Regular and thorough washing remains our strongest defence against the virus.
There are natural sources that are filled with antibacterial properties including lavender, sage, ylang-ylang and many more that help keep bacteria from spreading. Other such natural sources containing anti-microbial properties include:
- Coconut oil
- Tea tree
Too much washing can also cause dry skin. Which is why keeping moisture locked in the skin is important for the skin to stay clean and hydrated. What is recommended is a 20-second wash, rinse, making sure your hands are thoroughly dry, and then use your hand cream to seal in the moisture.
This is why we are strong proponents of brands that use pure, natural ingredients, that respects the skin as much as the environment.
We have hand-picked some products from our favourite Nordic skincare brands that have both cleansing and soothing properties for the skin:
- Hand & Body Wash | Sage, Rosemary and Lavender
- Hand & Body Wash | Lemongrass
- Sea Salt Bath | Marigold, Orange & Geranium
- Hand Cream | Sage, Rosemary & Lavender
Nighttime is a great downtime to give the skin a rest, boost hydration, and bring back its moisture levels back to optimal. We hope you are finding the self-care time that you need, in the shower or simply through washing your hands.
Stay safe and stay clean.
