7 Simple and Natural At-Home Treatments for Glowing Skin

Keeping things simple and natural is key when it comes to skincare. These homemade and chemical-free facial treatments made directly from nature's produce, and can be made straight away with what you can easily find in your kitchen. Making these before a bath or a shower once a week will give your skin a glow and healthy look. These are short 10-20 minutes treatments, a quick fix. 

Make sure to wash your face and mix the ingredients thoroughly before directly applying it to your skin. It is recommended that you do a patch test on your skin by trying it on a small spot like your neck, before applying to your face, to see if your skin might have any allergic reaction. Once you make the mask also make sure to use it immediately. 

Banana Hydration and Glow mask

Bananas have potassium, vitamins C and E which are miracle boosters that leave the skin clear and bright and protecting it against free radicals and pollution. It also has zinc to fight off acne. Honey has incredibly powerful antibacterial properties and antioxidants that combat skin infections and help with the relief and healing of skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne and more.

You will need: 

1 teaspoon natural yoghurt

2 teaspoons honey

1 half banana

Use a fork to mash in a medium-sized bowl and mix all the ingredients well together. Apply gently and evenly to your clean and dry face, and leave for about 15 minutes. Rinse well with lukewarm water and pat with towel to dry skin. Apply a face moisturizer on your clean skin.

Facial Treatment At-Home - Noli

Oatmeal for Irritated and Sensitive skin

Oatmeal is full of antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties that help calm irritated skin and remove dead skin cells. This mask is so gentle it can be used all over your body.

You will need: 

1 tablespoon oatmeal

1 teaspoon honey

½ teaspoon water

Blend the ingredients together in a bowl, place a smooth and even layer over your face and leave for about 10 minutes. Wash it off thoroughly with water and pat dry your face. 

Oatmeal + Yoghurt for Oily skin

 

Yoghurt has lactic acids which softens the skin, and probiotics to help soothe inflammation and redness. It also has astringent properties to cleanse out dead cells and excess oil. Oatmeal heals and moisturises the skin while the honey helps seal in moisture and acts as a natural spot buster.

You will need:

1 tablespoon yoghurt

1 teaspoon oatmeal

1 teaspoon honey

Mix the ingredients in a bowl well together. Apply to your face and leave it for 10-15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Pat dry and feel the natural dew and softness of the skin as a result. 

Avocado + Honey for Dry skin

Avocado has beneficial nutrients and natural fats to keep your skin and soft. It also contains Vitamin E to soften wrinkles. It has vitamin B and amino acids, to deeply nourish and help to reduce fine lines and boost skin immunity against stress and inflammation.The fatty acids from avocado are perfect to smoothen and moisturise dry skin.With only two simple ingredients, they will make wonders to dry skin. 

You will need:

Half avocado

1 tablespoon honey (can be substituted with 3 tablespoons milk)

Mix the ingredients together until they form a smooth paste (its okay if it is a little lumpy). Place gently in your face, wait for up to 15 minutes and wash thoroughly off your skin.  

Avocado + Cucumber for Oily skin  

You will need:

Half avocado 

Half cucumber

Avocado oils are packed with antioxidants to nourish and protect the skin. Cucumber contains 90% water helping hydrate the skin without leaving it oily and it is a natural astringent that helps tighten skin pores and remove dirt from the skin's surface. It is also cools your skin and reduces inflammation. 

Chop the cucumber finely and mix well together with the mashed avocado . Place gently in your face, wait for up to 15 minutes and wash thoroughly off your skin.   

(Tip: Save two slices of cucumber to use as your eye mask. Simply place one slice over each eye, lay down, and it will reduce eye puffiness and dark circles around the eye area ).

For Uneven Skin Tone

Tumeric is perfect for combating hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tones such as sun spots. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that help slow down excessive oil in the skin.

You will need:

1 tablespoon natural plain yoghurt

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon turmeric

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl into a smooth paste. Gently place evenly on your clean and dry face. Leave for 10 minutes and rinse off. 

Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

This hair mask is an instant hit, even actress Priyanka Chopra swears by it. Natural yoghurt is if full of proteins and fats that works both for the skin and hair. It acts as a natural conditioner for the hair. Honey on the other hand helps to clean and get rid of bacteria and dead skin cells, especially helping get rid of an itchy scalp. Combined together they leave the hair well defined and shiny.

What you need: 

2 tablespoons full fat natural yoghurt

1 tablespoon honey

1 egg

Mix the ingredients, gently massage from scalp to ends. Leave for 15-30 minutes (depending on how busy you are). Wash off with cool water or a mild shampoo. If you'd like to use conditioner, use a small amount.
